Paul Oakenfold: Words + Pix
We have been having quite a moment in our city lately. It was absolutely incredible to have another full night of amazingness for dance music in Richmond! The vibes at Ember were thick on Friday and all the DJ’s delivered on the music. Big shouts to the local openers who kept the dancefloor jumping: Elliot & Joey, Oliver Caine, Jesse Split & Me (Joanna O.). We heard all the genres: house, techno, breaks and even some liquid drum and bass before Blklight & Paul Oakenfold brought their signature sounds to the floor. Blklight was Paul’s tour opener from Orange County CA and he brought some fantastic upbeat house energy for us. So great! Paul Oakenfold is a superstar of the highest calibre in my world and it’s not hard to see why. He was super nice, extremely charismatic, very friendly, and brought a fun set to RVA that included new music and some very loved classic tracks too. There was something for everyone. My favorite part of the night was after the event when I was treated to a story from Paul about the first time he played a drum and bass track at Cream. It was Inner City Life by Goldie. He played the whole song from start to finish in the middle of his trance set. WOAH. What a night!
Thanks to Ember Music Hall & their staff for these amazing rave times we have been having here. This summer is going to continue to stay heated downtown for dope music. Watch this space for upcoming events. Thanks to all the dancers, party people, music lovers and vibe creators who make this all so worth it. BIG LOVE RVA!!! I caught a few snaps and a couple of videos of this great night. Enjoy & Let’s keep this going for a bit…
